Pink Himalayan Salt

Is Pink Himalayan Salt better than the regular salt?

Famous across the world as the salt that carries the purity and mysticism of the largest mountains in the world. It is believed that this salt formed millions of years ago after a sea from the prehistoric world evaporated to form a salt mine along the Himalayas. The salt harvested from these mines can be consumed with little to no refinement and is used as a substitute for table salt. Its pink color comes from the iron oxide present in the salt, the more iron oxide in the salt, the pinker or redder it gets. Pink Himalayan Salt has been referred to as a superfood for its incredible health benefits, but is it better than our normal table salt? There are many reasons to think so, some of which are as follows.

Richer in minerals

With much higher quantities of nutrients like Calcium, Iron, Magnesium and Potassium, pink salt is a great source of these nutrients for our bodies. Regular table salt has more Sodium in it than pink salt, which means that pink salt is not as salty as regular table salt. It is a good way to prevent deficiencies and give your body the minerals it needs.

Fewer additives

Pink Himalayan salt can be consumed naturally and undergoes very little refinement before it comes packaged and ready to use. Regular table salt is refined using heat and chemical-based processes that contain additives which are not natural. Most of the processing for pink salt is the mining and crushing of the salt to make it ready to consume.

Used as garnish

Pink salt is commonly used to help make food look more attractive. Coarse, chunky grains of pink Himalayan salt looks great on a plate. It also looks great when it is finely powdered over a dish, especially chaat items. Use an On1y pink salt grinder to get the right amount of coarseness on your pink salt. While there are many benefits to eating pink salt regularly, there is one major drawback for pink salt when compared to regular table salt.

Pink salt has no Iodine

This is one of the primary arguments against pink salt as a dietary choice ahead of regular salt. Pink salt has no Iodine, meaning you will have to get it from other sources like dairy products, fish and seaweed. The presence of Iodine is what makes regular table salt such an important part of our diet. Iodine is an important nutrient for our body, which is why it is important not to avoid iodized table salt altogether. If you can find enough Iodine for your body from other sources, then pink Himalayan salt is a much better alternative for you than regular table salt.
